Fortnite Leaks Suggest Sports Mode is in Development

The most recent leaks from Fortnite, courtesy of seasoned leaker and data miner HYPEX, suggest that Epic Games may be developing a feature known as Sports Mode.

While this is pure conjecture, there is some evidence to back up the rumor, and considering how things are moving along in the game’s ecosystem, it is not out of the question to imagine—and with good reason.

The following was written on the leaked photos related to this mode: In 2021, leakers/data miners discovered that Epic Games was developing basketball mini-games. The idea was for players to be able to play and watch basketball matches within the game itself.

We go beyond the basic toy functionally and into a Fortnite version of arcade basketball. Create mini-games of basketball in the form of an arcade to display completely new play.

Unfortunately, nothing else came to pass. There was no basketball mini-game to speak of, save for cooperation with LeBron James in Chapter 2 Season 7. HYPEX claimed that Epic Games might be working on the Sports Mode right now, and there is some evidence to back up this notion.

Basketball hoops were present in The Big Bang Live Event

As a result, many identified a minor detail during The Big Bang Live Event. Epic Games tends to reveal unreleased information through a variety of media.

They frequently do this through teasers, trailers, in-game Easter eggs, outdoor advertisements (Las Vegas Sphere), and, of course, live events.

Two basketball hoops were observed floating around in space after a new reality had emerged. While this might be a nod to the idea that everything is possible in Fortnite, they stood out significantly more than other aspects, leading leakers and data miners to believe that Epic Games was implying something.

Given that a basketball-themed Sports Mode was in the works, this may be the first official teaser of sorts, albeit an unofficial one. In addition, Epic Games is growing its Metaverse and bringing Fortnite beyond just Save the World and Battle Royale experiences.

Consequently, it would not be too strange to see a separate Sports Mode in Fortnite, which would blend in perfectly with the game’s other modes (Festival, Rocket Racing, and LEGO).

When could Sports Mode come to Fortnite?

There is currently no timeline available. Given that Epic Games is currently working to enhance the three recently added modded games, it may take some time to develop a dedicated Sports Mode. Additionally, LEGO has confirmed that several more LEGO-themed games will be available within Fortnite beginning early in 2019.

That being said, given the massive expansion that is always occurring, the roadmap ahead is rather winding and complex. Nevertheless, given the recent developments, Sports Mode will eventually become a reality. Epic Games could introduce it at the start of Chapter 6, but again, it would all depend on how things play out.
